Green Project in Inner-city Perth

The West Australian

21 January 2012

While the building industry is embracing more sustainable practices, it is not yet common to see these green developments in the inner city.

However, a new residential apartment complex on Mount Street in the Perth CBD – scheduled for completion in 2013 – is set to become one of the city’s most sustainable residential buildings with minimal impact on the environment during construction.

Designed by Baltinas Architecture, Halo on Mount will include eco-friendly features such as solar panels, low-impact techniques and heavy-duty glazed windows to reduce heat loss and minimise noise transfer.

Architect Barry Baltinas said the concept was deeply rooted in the need to design for a sustainable future.

“I believe that sustainability is definitely the future of apartment living.  Buildings that do not address this future market will be far less desirable for resale years down the track,” he said.

“There is a real need in the market for those who want to live respecting Mother Earth but also want to live a cosmopolitan and stylish inner-city life.

“Halo on Mount will now offer this.”

This development is expected to achieve a high energy-efficiency rating.
