High Life Tops an Empty Nest
Janine and Robert Waltman love the high life so much they’ve bought not one but two luxury apartments.
The couple have ditched their big rural property in Gidgegannup, 40km northeast of Perth, to buy two side-by-side apartments at the luxury Halo on Mount complex in West Perth – one for them and one for daughters 21-year-old Raffi and 20-year-old Laura.
And Ms Waltman said while the family had loved growing up in the country with alpacas and ponies, saying goodbye to the backyard was a relief.
“The girls were facing long commutes to get to uni and we were getting sick of having such a big property to maintain,” Ms Waltman said.
“The apartment is central to uni, the freeway and we can walk into the city.”
“It’s been a big change but we love it, the apartments are 80sq m and 87sq m but with big balconies so it’s just enough space.”
Ms Waltman said with grown-up children now living at home longer, apartments were ideal.
“They have their independence, but we’re still living together as a family,” she said.”
“And if we go away overseas we can just lock up and leave. The only thing I wish is that we’d done it sooner.”
